Travel Introduction

UK travel accessibility guidelines, mandated by the Equality Act 2010, require providers to make reasonable adjustments for disabled passengers, ensuring access to trains, buses, planes, ferries and taxis. Key provisions include passenger assistance services, step-free access, wheelchair spaces, and mandatory staff training.

In this section of the website, we aim to detail what is available in Shetland for each type of travel, both within the Isles and to the mainland.

The Access Panel aims to help address any issues with travel. This will be most effective if we are contacted by anyone who has difficulties with any journeys or seeks advice. We would also hope to aid travel providers with the guidance and regulations, including staff awareness training.
